Omar Gordon is the Porter at the Bayridge Municipal Garage. Being that it is a Municipal Garage it comes under the responsibility of the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT). It is an understatement to say the guidelines imposed by the DOT are tough. There are 15 different reasons that come under cleanliness and sanitation whereby the DOT can cite Propark and potentially issue a fine. The Garage goes through one to two random surprise inspections per week by DOT inspectors. Since we have managed the garage in April 2021 we have never received a fine or even been cited for any issue that comes under cleanliness or sanitation. These are the areas that Omar would be responsible for in the garage. Being that it is a City garage and the location is in a very challenging area it is tough to keep up with. Public restrooms in NYC are not an easy thing to maintain. Since we have taken-over we have received many compliments on how the cleanliness has improved and what a pleasure it is to use the restrooms. Omar has had to deal with all kinds of challenges including homeless, using the stairwell as a bathroom and a hotel, kids trying to use fire extinguishers as toys and snow-storms. During our recent snow-storm he came in on the weekend to make sure the City sidewalks and Garage was maintained. He does all aspects of his job with a great attitude. He has also filled in when we need to cover shifts like Cashier or Weekend Manager. If we are unable to cover a shift, we also receive a fine. In addition to everything he does at Bayridge he volunteers to help at other Propark location. Recently the Manager of Bayridge who also managers another site was out on vacation. I received a call from the Command Center that the equipment was malfunctioning. I was at a location not close by and I needed someone who could assess and fix the problem. Omar stepped up and drove to the other location to repair equipment. We avoided a large loss of revenue. Finally, the elevators at Bayridge were out of order for a long period of time. Omar has been seen on multiple occasions helping elderly customers carry their bags up the stairs or ramp. He never is asked to do these things but is proactive about helping.
